Good News…

Mark 16:15 And then Jesus told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone…”

Tomorrow evening fireworks will be exploding, parties will be happening and people will be rejoicing a very temporal event – the end of one year and the beginning of another. Some people like to celebrate the current year ending because it contained hard or difficult times and they’re full of hope for a better & brighter 2015.

In today’s verse the 11 disciples have gathered around Jesus and things are about to dramatically change in their world. Jesus is about to leave them and so He gives them His final instructions. He gives them directions for the new season that lies ahead. The first thing He tells them to do is to preach & proclaim the Good News to everyone.

Now, Jesus didn’t say to go about like we’re baptized in vinegar telling everyone the problems, the difficulties or the impossibilities. He said go out and tell everyone that we have the answer, the Good News of the Gospel of Peace. This Good news contains the power of God that’ll bring change into every dire & desolate situation. It has abundant power to change a bad past into a bright future and that power is only available through His Gospel.

On this New Years Eve let’s make solid plans to do what Jesus said in the great commission and share the Good News of His Gospel to all the world. Let’s share the simplicity of His Gospel with everyone we can – its simply good news not bad. By doing this we’ll activate Mark 16:17 in our lives and have signs and wonders trailing behind us.

Let’s make 2015 a year to be proud of our God and all He’s done and continues to do!

It’s Possible…

Luke 1:35 The Holy Spirit will come upon you, the power of the Highest hover over you

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our savior Jesus let’s learn a great lesson from this verse. Mary has just asked the messenger angel how she can bear a child seeing as she had never slept with a man. The angel’s reply is this verse and it describes how the miracle working power of our God can change the impossible into the possible.

Mary’s situation was certainly impossible. She was a virgin, she was unmarried and she’d never slept with a man. What the angel was telling her was naturally impossibility. We soon see that when God speaks all things become possible. Mary response to the angel was “Let it be with me just as you say.” [Luke 1:38]

God clearly had a plan & a purpose that needed to come forth on the earth. It was going to take both the presence of the Holy Spirit and the power of God plus the agreement of Mary to enable the impossible to become possible. We know that’s exactly what happened!

So, what’s the impossible thing you’re facing at the moment? What has God spoken that has no natural way of ever occurring? It doesn’t matter how major or minor the situation is simply apply God’s promises to it and it can become filled with possibility.

Here’s how…
1] Invite the Holy Spirit into the situation
2] Allow the power of God to enter in and work
3] Agree with God’s Word concerning the outcome

It wasn’t an easy journey for Mary to see the impossible become possible but she saw it. As we apply God’s Word to our situations we too will see possibility where it never existed before.

Good God People…

Psalm 100:5 “For the LORD is good and his love endures forever”

Everybody loves a good person who does good things. Around Christmas time we focus on the good that people do and we try to do good ourselves. Christmas is also a time of giving gifts as we express our love and generosity to each other in celebrating the greatest gift of all – Jesus!

Today’s verse reminds us that God is good and has everlasting love for each of us. We are each capable of doing good and being generous because we’re made in the image and likeness of God [Genesis 1]. Without God we’re incapable of being good, loving or generous. It is the God that is in us that makes us this way.

Now, it’s easy to forget that God is good. Many things each day try to steal our focus and rob us of this fact. The great English preacher of the 1800’s Charles Spurgeon said it this way “Christian, remember the good of God in the frost of adversity.” This is such a powerful quote!

Many believers hit adversity and rather than seeking out the goodness of God they freeze Him out of their lives. They rebelliously pursue their own greed and lust that ultimately leads to their own destruction. The key to winning over adversity is to pursue the goodness of God at all times. Always remembering that God loves us, He is for us and He is not against us.

This Christmas why not give ourselves a gift of love. No matter what happens in our day let’s find the goodness of God in each situation. As we do we’ll also find His enduring heart of love that will beat in unison with ours. What seemed like frosty adversity will melt with His eternal love and we’ll always remember that GOD IS GOOD!

Tell Me About It…

Malachi 3:16 “Then those whose lives honored God got together and talked it over.”

Every life has a story. Every story is unique and every story desires to be told. Many people don’t share their life’s story but as born again believers we’re meant to. Our lives are transformed to honor God and if we don’t put a voice to our story we’ll miss out on a very precious promise from God.

Malachi 3:16 continues saying “God saw what they were doing and listened in”. There’s the start of the promise right there. When we talk about our God honoring lives God sees us doing it and listens to us. That’s right, we have the eyes of God on us and we have His ears listening to our words as we speak & honor Him. Who wouldn’t want that?

God is seeing & listening to us as we speak then Malachi 3:16 proceeds to say that “A book was opened in God’s presence and minutes were taken of the meeting, with the names of the God-fearers written down, all the names of those who honored God’s name”. WOW! God sees us, hears us and writes our names down in His book with details of what we’ve been talking about, details of how we honored Him.

This week let’s start to shout out our lives. Why not meet with some other believers and talk about your God honoring lives. God’s promise will come into effect as you do. He will see, hear and write our names in His book along with how we honored Him. It will become a part of our permanent record in heaven.

You Choose….

Proverbs 22:21 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold

Everybody loves a great smorgasbord. The choice to move around the many sumptuous and delicious dishes enjoying as much or little as we please is extremely tempting. The truth is that everybody enjoys choice but every choice has consequence. If we eat too much at the smorgasbord too often we’ll make ourselves rotund & overweight which really isn’t the desired result.

Today’s verse helps teach us about our choices. We’re told to choose a “good name” over great riches and “favor” over silver and gold. Ecclesiastes 7:1 also adds that even a good name is better than a fat bank account.

Our verse explains that pursuing riches, gold & silver will come at the cost of favor & a good name. Certain people will do anything for money. As long as they have their money they care little for favor or a good name. Gathering riches eventually costs them everything as they progressively lose favor, a good name and everything they gathered.

If the bible says that a good name is better than great riches then it is and I choose a good name.

If the bible says that favor is better than silver & gold then it is and I choose favor.

So why make these 2 vital choices? The reason is that when we have a good name and the favor of God upon our lives then everything we need can come to us. Through opportunity, favor, promise, future & hope everything opens up God’s way. Blessing is the result of our choices being in-line with God’s Word rather than Greed’s Word so choose God and you choose the best!
