Yours Free…

Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

For children the cake shop used to hold an endless fascination. The aroma of freshly baked pastry attracted everyone. Standing outside staring at all the those delicious creations on the other side of the glass would tempt the appetite. Every delicacy could be seen but not tasted. The only way to have them was to enter the store and get them.

In today’s verse Jesus tells us about true rest. Many people need it and want it but so many are unable to get it. They stand like kids at the cake shop window desiring rest so desperately but never getting it. The truth is if we’re weary & burdened Jesus has rest for us today – so come on in and get it!

The key to receiving true rest is to simply come to Jesus. This means altering our life’s direction to follow His way of doing things. Just like entering the doors of the cake shop to get a pastry we must come to only Jesus to get rest rather than continually trying to do it in our own strength. There’s no limit, exclusion or denial to this rest, it’s available to everyone who does things Jesus way.

The rest Jesus has for us costs absolutely nothing beyond our obedience. No matter what is burdening and making you weary today the Bible has a way to accomplish it that will produce rest. Today make a decision to adjust your way of doing things to His way. Then the weary will become strong, the burdened will be lightened and true rest will be given to you!

Salt Please…

“You are the salt…” Matthew 5:13

When sitting down to enjoy a good meal people often ask, “Can you pass the salt please?” This is often said before they’ve even tasted a mouthful. They want the seasoning on hand to be able to improve the flavor. They want to make their meal a more enjoyable & memorable experience.

Jesus tells us in today’s verse that we are the salt of the world. We are what everybody wants so that they can have greater flavor and enjoyment in life. When we know what we are we’re able to help other people more effectively. We can touch their lives and cause their future to have more flavor, enjoyment and be more memorable. We do this simply by being ourselves and helping others.

Now remember that salt doesn’t do any good sitting on a table in a saltshaker. It’s got to be sprinkled on the food for it’s full benefit to be realized. It’s the same with us. We need to get out of our own little world and influence others in a Godly way. When we act like salt by helping others we will get the result the bible promises: Glorifying the Father in Heaven [Matthew 5:16]

This week make a decision to “sprinkle” yourself over the lives of lots of other people. Become their encouragement, their fun and their friend. Get out of the saltshaker by doing something special with someone who is lonely or marginalized in your world. Before long your salt will season each relationship and God the Father will be glorified in Heaven.

“I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great, and so you shall be a blessing to others” – Genesis 12:2

Have you ever been hosing the garden, taken a step and discovered that the stream of water has faltered and stopped? Looking back along the hose you see a twist and kink that’s stopping any water from passing through. The solution is relatively easy: unkink the hose and the water again freely flows. If you hadn’t looked you’d not have known the reason for the blockage or how to rectify it.

Today’s verse can help us unkink our lives a bit. We’re told that God will make us, bless us and bring greatness into our world. This is part of God’s Heart for His people and part of the promise He made to Abraham that the Apostle Paul said would come upon you and I [Galatians 3:14]. But the flow of Blessing seems to be kinked & blocked in many believers’ lives.

The key to a free flow of blessing and an expansive life in God is held in the last part of this verse. Whenever we’re blessed we’re meant to reach out and bless others. We should actively ensure that others are blessed by us at every opportunity. If we don’t then there’s a kink and the flow of blessings falters and stops in our lives.

This week let’s check back and see if we’ve been kinking the Blessings of God in our lives through a stingy attitude or a poverty mindset. No matter how little or how much God brings into our lives every believer can afford a kind word, a helping hand or a small gift to help raise someone up to a better place. That’s what we’re do every week so why not join us on this journey and bring a free flow of blessing back into your life, family, city & nation.

Hold on…

“Jesus is before all things, and IN HIM all things hold together”
Colossians 1:17

Have you ever been holding so many things that it feels like every arm, hand, finger and toe has something hooked onto it? If you were to move even an inch calamity would happen, something would drop and you’d be unable to pick it up again without dropping everything else. Some people’s lives are like this but it’s not God’s way.

Today’s verse reminds us that Jesus can and will help hold everything together in our lives. He’s concerned about us and wants to cause our lives to flourish and prosper in Him. But it takes doing things His way rather than doing them our way. When we do things God’s way everything holds together.

Sometimes no matter how we look at a situation it appears guaranteed to fall apart. This is when we must open up God’s Word the Bible, find His solution & answer and then follow what it says. Rather than daily calamities we’ll start experiencing constant victories as Jesus holds everything together.

This week let’s refuse to accept defeat. Even when a problem looks broken or unbeatable let’s take God’s Word and do what it says. Let’s lay down our own ideas, agenda & ego and pick up God’s way to do it. Allow Jesus to get right in the middle, hold it all together and cause victory to appear. Make a decision to move away from life’s calamities and into God’s abundant life.
