Never Get Bored…

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” Ecclesiastes 9:10

Have you ever become bored and lost interest in what you’re meant to be doing? As children this happened easily especially over the long summer school breaks. Boredom would cause us to become weary & restless having little interest in anything besides complaining. But when we applied effort, thought and ingenuity to what we could do, we’d no longer be bored. We’d actually end up having a great time full of fun, energy and memories

Today’s verse from Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is always something for us to do. If we ever find ourselves in a state of boredom it’s because we’re living for ourselves when we ought to be living for God. When we live for Him and exert effort into His Kingdom there’s always a return. Today’s verse says we’re to put ALL our might into doing things not just some might. The reason is that we’ll get out what we put in.

Now, we can’t expect to achieve extraordinary results from average effort. It’s not necessary for us to possess some magnificent ability, talent or skill. We don’t have to be rich, poor or middle-of-the-road. What we must do is simply see a need and be willing to fill it. We’re not meant to fill it with just average effort. We’re to fill it with all our might knowing that extraordinary results will occur.

This week, rather than winging & complaining about life, work, family & Church let’s apply our maximum effort into bringing Godly change that will help build His Kingdom. When we obediently exert this effort we can expect a great return. It’ll be a return that we can enjoy because it’s filled with fun, energy and memories.

Follow Me…

Jesus said, “Follow me.”
Luke 9:59, Matthew 8:22, Matthew 9:9, Mark 2:14, Luke, John 1:43, John 21:19 & 22

Have you ever taken a journey along a scenic road with a group of friends? Afterwards you reminisce & talk about the highlights seen. Everybody has a different account & a different experience. Something’s you saw others might have missed. Something’s they enjoyed, you didn’t. Everybody has arrived at the destination but everyone has had a different and unique journey.

Today’s verse invites us on the greatest journey of our lives. Many reading this encouragement have already begun following Jesus on this journey but some have become confused. Confusion happens when we start comparing our journey experiences with others before we’ve reached the destination. The truth is we’re all heading to the same goal but everyone will have different experiences along life’s road.

Jesus instructed us to “follow Him” not to be Him. We are no one’s savior but we can lead them to Jesus. We can’t carry others burdens but we know Jesus can. We are no ones answer but we have the answer in Him. As we travel along life’s road following Jesus it’s our role to simply connect others to Him whilst we continue moving towards our destination with Him.

This week let’s shake of comparisons and disappointments. Let’s accept the fact that we’re on an individual and unique journey with Jesus. Our journey may be different from everybody else’s but remember that the one and only Jesus is leading and guiding every step of the way. When Jesus called you out saying, “Follow me” and you responded “Yes!” you started the greatest and most exhilarating journey of your life – so why not enjoy the journey!

A Simple Decision…

“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” Joshua 24:15

Have you ever made a decision that has affected your future? It may have been relocating for work, committing to a mortgage or helping someone in a desperate time of need. You had to make the hard decision and then work towards the goal that you had set. It wasn’t always easy but the result was far beyond what you imagined.

In today’s verse Joshua tells us about the decision that made his life so successful. Joshua’s decision was that he and his whole family would serve the Lord. No matter what mistakes and mishaps had happened in the past this decision would define the future for his whole family for generations to come. That’s right, this one decision pivoted his family and a whole nation into a Godly and prosperous future. The same decision can have a similar result for you.

We all serve something or someone. Joshua explained how easy it is to serve the familiar things around us. He tells us how easy it is to serve the things of our past or the things of the culture that surround us. His exhortation was that these things would not produce anything of eternal value in our lives. Serving the one and only true God is the only way to advance in life and add value and strength to our future generations.

This week let’s make sure our decisions line up with Joshua’s: Serving the Lord. If we discover they don’t then let’s stop, evaluate and re-target our future towards this important goal. Our lives will start to move in a Godly direction and the future generations will be equipped to move powerfully in the things of God even when under intense resistance. Your decision can change the course of future generation if you make the same decision Joshua made.

Immovable…

“Be strong and immovable”1 Corinthians 15:58

It amazes me that after the greatest storm or tsunami there are still trees that remain standing. They’ve been battered, beaten & scared but they endure. In no time at all they sprout, grow and flourish again. They’ve withstood the storm, it didn’t kill them, it simply made them stronger.

In today’s verse the Apostle Paul lets us know that we, like these tress, should be both strong & immovable. We’re to firmly stand on God’s Word and remain in the place He’s planted us [Psalm 92:12-15]. We’re not meant to yield & run when life’s storms hit. We’re to stay strong & immovable, let the storm pass and then flourish & grow again.

Many believers run and hide every time there’s opposition. That’s really not God’s way and we never see Jesus doing this. Whenever opposition hits we’re to remain strong and immovable in God’s promises. This enables us to endure, remain & flourish again, rather than being washed away & wrecked in life.

This week let’s firm up our roots so we can be both strong & immovable through future storms. We’re taught in Colossians 2:7 to let our roots grow down into God as we build up our lives up in Him. It’s a lot easier than we think. Why not listen to the audio below and discover how simple it is to be both strong & immovable in life.

Easy Joy…

“We saw it, we heard it, and now we’re telling you” 1 John 1:3

When people try to explain how to achieve something they’re familiar with they often say it’s as easy as one, two, three. In other words it’s simple and basic to accomplish when you learn how. Once you understand the basics you’ve got a foundation that you can build on. As you build you discover a joy that comes from achieving the results from what you’ve learnt.

In today’s verse John the Evangelist teaches us a foundational but very powerful lesson. John says whatever he’s sees & hears about Jesus he tells other people. He’s not keeping it a secret, hidden away so no one knows. John was a cheerleader for everything that God was doing. He did this so others could experience the same joy he was.

John’s cheerleading technique was as easy as 1, 2, 3…

1] See something God is doing
or
2] Hear something about what God is doing
and then
3] Tell others about it

This week lets be proactive cheerleaders like John the Evangelist. Let’s keep our eyes open to see what God’s doing. Let’s keep our ears open to hear what God’s doing. Then lets open up our mouths and start telling others about all the powerful things that we’re seeing and hearing. This will cause great friendship and will also deliver untold joy into our lives. Cheerleading will build God’s Church and will strengthen His people into the future!
