“The LORD will make you the head, not the tail”
Deuteronomy 28:13
Growing up on a dairy farm I gained an early education that a cow has two ends: the head and the tail. The tail end is messy, dirty and smelly whereas the head end is noisy and often dangerous. The animal is led by the head whilst everything unwanted comes out the tail end… so don’t stand too close!
Today’s verse lets us know about the future plan God has for each of us. He intends us to be the head, the top, summit, front and beginning of everything in our life. The problem is many believers needlessly accept the back end of life as normal. They’re regularly pushed around by others, continually being covered in the unwanted messes of life.
It’s easy to feel like we’re not capable of being the head but this verse teaches that God will “make us” one. The verse continues on to say that if we pay attention to God’s commands and carefully follow them, we’ll always be at the top and never at the bottom.
This week let’s make the decision to become the head. Rather than living as the tail in life. Let’s take control and lead our lives through the Word of God no matter what people say or do. In no time at all people will start noticing and we’ll be able to share God’s plan for their life to become a head and never the tail.
