Leaping to Destiny…

For we live by faith, not by sight
2 Corinthians 5:17

There’s an antelope common to Africa called the Impala. It’s one of their most common and graceful animals. They are able to jump to a height of 4 metres and cover a distance of more than 10. These splendid creatures are able to be kept in a Zoo enclosure with only a 1-metre-high wall. None escape because they’re unwilling to jump if they can’t see where their feet will land.

Today’s verse lets us know that escape from our present circumstances isn’t dependent on what we can see in our present situation. We’re told that our future is framed by faith and that everything we presently see has little or no value in bringing change to our future. It’s what we can’t yet see that will deliver change [Romans 4:17].

Many believers live a life fenced about with fear. They won’t jump in faith to a greater future because they don’t know where their feet will land. They believe that escape is impossible. Our verse says that we should LEAP regardless and know that God has a safe landing and a magnificent future ahead for us. This type of faith is what pleases God [Hebrews 11:6].

This week let’s leap over our fears & pursue what faith is calling us to. Fear only ever limits, controls and fences us in. Let’s find a promise in God’s Word about our future and LEAP forward in faith with it. Before long we’ll wonder why we stayed captive so long when God had such a wide, expansive, open life waiting for us [2 Corinthians 6:11-13 Message Translation].

A Name Change…

No longer shall your name be called Abram, But your name shall be Abraham; For I have made you…
Genesis 17:5

Our name is what we’re known & recognized by. Growing up we hear, “That’s just like Sally” or “There goes Johnny the mechanic”. Our name becomes a reflection of what we’ve done & who we were. People will greet us, refer to us and get our attention simply by using our name. Even when we alter what we do our name remains.

In today’s verse we see God changing a name, Abram to Abraham. No longer was Abraham to be referred to in the old way. We’re told that God had made him into something new. His new name reflects God’s promises & his future rather than Abram’s dysfunction & past.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says when we’re born-again old things pass away and all things become new” All things include our name. The old meaning of our name is dead and a new meaning has begun. No longer does our name reflect our past failures & defeats. No longer does it label us with what we did or did not do. Our name now reflects & labels us with the promises God has made us. He’s made us victorious [Romans 8:37], He’s given us future and hope [Jeremiah 29:11] and we are blessed [Ephesians 1:3].

This week lets release the old meaning of our name and pick up the new. Let’s walk with our head held high as the child of God we are. Let’s be known & recognized by the promises God has spoken over us. Our name may sound the same but what it reflects is what God has made us rather than what our past has branded us.

New Things…

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

We celebrated Jesus on Good Friday & Resurrection Sunday and are now enjoying Easter Monday. Today is the commencement of a brand-new week. This week holds the anticipation of new things that God is about to do.

Our verse helps us to understand how to deal with these new things. It says that we are a new creation. It reminds us that old things die and new things come. As we begin this new week and in the power of Christ we have this excellent verse to keep Jesus fresh in our minds.

Easter revealed that the resurrection power of Christ is very real. This power has the ability to make things new and it’s available to anyone who is in Christ. It will cause some things in our lives to die as well as creating & birthing new things.

This week, let’s allow Christ’s resurrection power to invade every area of our lives. Old things will die and new things will be birthed for our future. We’re in a season of new beginnings so let’s jump into the powerful plans and purposes of God. Let’s prepare for our future by allowing God’s new things to come alive in our lives this week.
