Focus Stolen…

For God so loved the world that he gave…
John 3:16

Have you ever received a beautiful trinket only to notice a slight imperfection on what is an otherwise perfect keepsake? You didn’t notice it originally but now every time you look, you see it. It’s absolutely beautiful in every other way but that fault catches your eye every time and that’s all you can focus on. The problem is your focus has been stolen.

Today’s verse lets us know that our God is a giver. He has given us magnificent gifts that are beautiful, powerful & essential for a Godly life. We already have them and we should focus on them. Our enemy, the devil, continually tries to steal our focus and put it on loss rather than gain. Worse still he tries to find fault in what God has given us. When we don’t allow the devil to steal our attention, we keep our focus and our Godly future.

Here are a few things that God’s Word says He’s already given us. They are beautiful, powerful and essential for a Godly life…

2 Peter 1:4 – God has given us his very great and precious promises
2 Peter 1:3 – God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.
2 Timothy 1:7 – God has given us a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline
1 John 5:11 – God has given us eternal life
2 Thessalonians 2:16 – God has given us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope
2 Corinthians 10:8 – God has given us authority to build others up
2 Corinthians 5:18 – God has given us the task of reconciling people to him
1 John 3:24 – God has given us His spirit to live in us

This week let’s concentrate on these verses. Let’s continually remember what God has given us and how beautiful, powerful and essential they are for our future.

Return It To Sender…

“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”
2 Timothy 1:7

Have you ever received someone else’s mail by mistake? It may be addressed to a person who has left the address. If you don’t know the name you simply mark it “return to sender” and mail it back.

Today’s verse shows us how easy it is to receive the wrong thing. When we’re born again, we’re meant to receive things only from God. But the devil continually attempts to deliver stuff that we don’t need or want.

Fear is one thing that the devil will try to deliver and it’s not a gift we want. It’s  a delivery that needs to be marked “return to sender” and removed from our lives as fast as possible. God sends us a spirit of power & love & a sound mind. So if we’re receiving anything else besides this then it’s not coming from God.

This week let’s check what we’ve already received into our lives. If it’s not full of God’s power & love, causing us to have a sound mind then it must be dealt with quickly. Tell fear that this verse says that it has landed at the wrong address and that we’re returning it to its sender. As we do this our lives will reach a new level of freedom as we receive only what God has for us.

Gift Exchange…

“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”
2 Timothy 1:7

Sometimes we receive a gift that’s completely unsuitable. If the store has a return policy we take our gift in so they’ll exchange it for something we can really use. We get to leave with what we actually need rather than what we had.

Today’s verse reminds us that we don’t have to accept every gift that is offered to us. In fact God has a super exchange policy that is available to every believer. He says that if we ever receive the spirit of fear we can come to him and exchange it for power, love and a sound mind. Now that’s a great exchange!

Often the spirit of fear tries to blow into our life. It leaves cowardice, timidity, fear and intimidation as gifts for us. These gifts DO NOT come from God. We need to exchange them for things that we can always use. God says he will give us explosive spiritual power, agape love and a disciplined self-controlled mind whenever we exchange them with him. How good is God!

This week let’s make this great exchange. Let’s come to God with our unwanted gifts of cowardice, timidity, fear & intimidation. Let’s leave them with Him taking away new gifts of power, love and a sound mind. We will appreciate these new gifts and we will use them continually. We’ll be so glad we made a gift exchange with God!

The Return Policy…
